Course Overview ( 1 CEU or CLE Credit Hour)

In this professional development course for leaders, you will learn new strategies to 'listen-to', help, coach, and teach diverse people you serve and lead. Your world team is already diverse with a mix of participants who have varying abilities, disabilities, cultural differences, and socio-economic backstories. An efficient and effective leader (administrator, lawyer, professional, etc.) can re-prioritize processes to produce an inclusive and empowering culture. In this course, you will learn to see diversity as a living and breathing, 'learning opportunity' for all. Through story-listening, you will learn Autoethography anduncover powerful narratives and become a change agent for the new reality of inclusion. Each lesson in this course will include an instructional video followed by an activity and attached readings. Complete all readings and activities for each lesson in the course. At the end of the course you will receive a certificate of completion. The Art of Story-Listening" approved for Continuing Legal Education (CLE) ethics credit through the North Carolina Bar Association. Also If you are an attorney in you can receive 1 Ethics credit hour by taking our online course.

Dr. Derrick Drakeford

Derrick has served as an Instructor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel-Hill. Derrick is a former faculty member of North Carolina Central University in the Masters in Public Administration program. He also served as the Director of Freshmen Studies and Community Service at The Shaw University in Raleigh, NC. Derrick has consulted with nonprofits, business, and churches for 20 years. He holds a Bachelors in political science from Bethune-Cookman University, a Masters in Public Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's School of Government. He holds a certificate in Nonprofit Management from the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Social Work; and certificates in Proposal Writing and Fundraising for Nonprofits from the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana -Purdue University. Derrick received his Ph.D, from UNC-Chapel Hill.
